Let’s rewind to a simpler time.
I was standing in the laundry room—one kid crying, another screaming about a missing hoodie, and me just trying to find socks that didn’t smell like a swamp. Somewhere between the pile of unfolded clothes and the growing suspicion that I had, in fact, washed the same load twice in two days without drying it—I snapped.
Not in a dramatic, flipping-the-basket kind of way (though that has happened). More like a quiet, internal “there has got to be a better way” whisper from my soul.
So I did what any mom on the brink does: I Googled.
“How to make laundry not suck.”
Spoiler: There were no miracle cures. But what I did find was something I hadn’t considered—how awful traditional laundry products are for the environment and our bodies.
The plastic jugs?
Only 9% get recycled. The rest end up in landfills or floating in oceans, where turtles and fish are like, “Really, Susan?”
The chemicals?
Half the stuff I was using couldn’t be pronounced without a chemistry degree. And the more I learned about what was lurking in my detergent, the more I started to wonder if the eczema patches on my kids’ arms had something to do with it.
The waste?
Between overpouring (because no one ever uses the right amount) and spills, I was basically just tossing money—and soap—down the drain.
Something had to change.
And it did.
